Culture Calendar: September 2018
The hottest sneakers this month are available in London—by appointment only.
Being up to date on all things health and wellness is social and cultural currency these days, which is why we started the Furthermore book club. Next, we introduced an events calendar to help high performers stay on top of the best new lecture series, art exhibitions, films, and more. Here, our picks for this month.
SHOP BALENCIAGA’S TRACK CAPSULE COLLECTION.
Balenciaga’s Speed and Triple S sneakers reached cult status practically overnight. This month, the French fashion house launches its newest sneaker, Track, along with a capsule collection of hoodies, T-shirts, and socks, at the Selfridges Corner Shop in London. Get them by appointment only from September 3 to 23.
TAKE IN LAKE TAHOE’S PRESTIGIOUS FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL.
From September 7 to 9, you can ride a gondala up to a multi-course “farm-to-Tahoe” dining experience and enjoy a wine tasting that involves a telescopic viewing of the cosmos. Other highlights of the weekend include a “progressive picnic” during which you’ll stop for beer tastings and bites while hiking through Tahoe National Forest with a professional trail guide.
CELEBRATE EXPERIMENTAL DANCE.
Starting September 16, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City will present “Judson Dance Theater: The Work is Never Done,” a gallery exhibition and performance program paying tribute to the 1960s’ influential Judson Dance Theater. Now-legendary participants included painter Robert Rauschenberg and sculptor Robert Morris.
ATTEND A CONFERENCE WITH BOLDFACE CREATIVES.
On September 28, the Portland Creative Conference (Cre8con) will bring together leading creatives across various industries. Ronnie Wright, footwear design director of Nike’s Jordan brand, and author Chuck Klosterman will discuss their creative process, influences, and more. Proceeds will benefit arts education in Portland.
EXPLORE A NEW YORK STATE ECOLOGICAL TREASURE.
The Black Rock Forest in the Hudson Valley is a “living laboratory” known for its contributions to ecological research. On September 29, join star Equinox talent on a 12-mile hike through the biosphere and up to the summit of Storm King Mountain. (You might even be able to spot Manhattan in the distance.) You’ll dine mountaintop before descending back to the base and returning to Equinox Sports Club for a spa treatment.
