This pomegranate drink features kava kava, ginger, and turmeric.

Native to the Pacific Islands, kava kava root has been shown to calm stress and anxiety. This drink blends the extract with antioxidant-rich pomegranate juice and turmeric, says Laura Rege, a New York City-based recipe developer. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and adds a spicy kick. 

Serves 4
Prep time: 5 minutes


  • 8 cups ice
  • 4 cups pomegranate juice
  • 2 two-inch piece of fresh turmeric root, peeled
  • 2 one-inch piece of fresh ginger root, peeled
  • 1 teaspoon kava kava root extract (such as Hawaii Pharm Kava Kava Liquid Extract)
  • 4 pieces crystallized ginger, for serving


  1. In a blender, combine ice, pomegranate juice, turmeric, ginger, and kava kava until smooth. Divide among four glasses. Top each with a piece of crystallized ginger.
