My passions for food and skincare developed around the same time. I was the only 12-year-old I knew who was wearing anti-wrinkle creams and eating beef Wellington. This year, I realized that I could bring together these two worlds, so I pitched the series. Each show focuses on a common food that’s used in beauty treatments, such as face masks, body scrubs, and hair removal.
There are some treatments that you can easily do at home with foods from your own kitchen, such as an <a href=https://www.facebook.com/TreatYourselfwithSkyler/videos/1981067908634670/ target=_blank>avocado hair mask</a>. Of course, there are some spa experiences that are worth it, like the red wine bath I took in one episode. It was a luxurious experience, but I can’t imagine the cleanup that’s required.
I’m big on the power of omega-3 fats, both when eaten and applied topically. I use La Prairie’s caviar-based cream. I also sleep with SiO Beauty’s silicone pads a few times a week. They plump the skin and my face feels frozen in time. Every month, I try to get a facial. It’s an investment, but I’m really noticing a difference.<br><div><br></div>
To be frank, I suck at it. I depend on caffeine way too much. But I’ve tried to find a balance by telling myself that it’s okay to let an hour go by without answering an email; unplugging and relaxing over the weekend; and getting enough rest. I grew up thinking that sleeping in was unproductive, but it’s so important for <a href=/articles/2018/05/sleep-assessment>healing the body</a>.<br><div><br></div>
In the morning, I walk on the treadmill while I answer emails. I also work with a trainer two or three days a week to focus on strength training and my core. I also use the weight machines at the gym and do Pilates.<br><div><br></div>
I bring everyone together through social media, and an instructor teaches the class. I’m not a fitness expert, but I love a good workout. A lot of women have reached out to me about my exercise regimen, because my dining lifestyle could be considered fattening. That’s why I started posting more about my workouts.<br><div><br></div>
I keep it simple. My go-to healthy meal is seared salmon with a spinach-and-avocado salad with olive oil and lemon. It’s so simple. No. I do struggle with hormone imbalance, so I try (key word: try) to eat an anti-inflammatory diet. I avoid simple carbs, processed foods, trans fats, lots of sugar, and hormone-injected meat. I don’t follow this strictly, though. I listen to my body and eat what nourishes it.<br><div><br></div>
