My Healthy: Kara Goucher
The Olympic runner and author on her go-to snacks and favorite foam roller
Long-distance runner Kara Goucher relies as much on her mental strength as her physical strength during races. In her new book, Strong: A Runner's Guide to Boosting Confidence and Becoming the Best Version of You, she shares the lessons and techniques that have helped propel her through two Olympics (in the 5,000m, 10,000m, and 26.2-mile distances) and countless marathons, including Boston and New York. Here, Goucher reveals some of the essentials that keep her going on and off the course.

“I get tired of drinking water and my stomach can’t handle the typical sports drinks. These electrolyte tablets help me hydrate better. They’re really light and not sugary.”
Made in Nature Figgy Pops and Coconut Chips
“I love these snacks for when I’m running around. They don’t taste processed.”
“I’m obsessed with the activity ring feature. I got my family into it, too. It’s connected us, because when anyone closes a ring or completes a workout, I get a notification and can congratulate them.”
addaday Pro Massage Roller
“Now that I’m 40, I know that if I don’t foam roll before bed, I’m going to have a bad session in the morning. This version has ridges to get up into my joint capsules, especially my hip.”
Oiselle Sweats and Running Dresses
“I basically live in running clothes. Oiselle’s fabrics are super soft and breathable, but thick enough that they’re not see-through. They’re also designed for women and by women, so the fit is really good.”
“Journaling is important for my mental health. I make sure that I give myself credit for who I am and what I’ve done.”
“I’m always outside, so I’m paranoid that I’m aging myself. I’m a big sunscreen person, and I think everyone should be using it as well.”
