Recipe: Sal Seasoning Blend
Skip the table salt and try this easy combination of spices.
Although often maligned along with sugar, athletes shouldn't fear salt. If you're looking for something more flavorful than the typical Kosher kind, try this delicious version from spice connoisseur Lior Lev Sercarz. "Sprinkle this coarse blend over thin slices of raw salmon and serve with shaved radishes and orange segments. It also adds a peppery, nutty flavor to fresh avocado salad," he says.
Makes about ¼ cup
1 tablespoon fleur de sel, or medium-grain sea salt
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
1 tablespoon Sichuan pepper, coarsely ground
1 teaspoon granulated dried orange peel
1 teaspoon anise seeds, ground
Place ingredients in a bowl and mix together.
