Unzipped: Canada Goose's Spencer Orr
The V.P. of design and merchandising upacks his gym bag.
Like many of the best, outerwear company—and now internationally-recognized refuge from the cold—Canada Goose started small: in a tiny, Toronto warehouse in 1957. Today, the red and blue badge unofficially rules the industry of luxe winter wear as a symbol of warmth, and for good reason.
No one knows this better than Spencer Orr, vice president of design and merchandising for Canada Goose: “Part of my job is to help create the best outerwear for an active lifestyle, regardless of weather conditions,” he says.
And CG products aim to do just that—from lightweight shells to field-tested parkas that combat the chilliest places on earth—the gear is home grown across the border with premium Canadian down and coyote fur (which never freezes and doesn’t hold water). It’s also developed with a “Thermal Experience Index” matching the right amount of warmth to specific endeavors. “We design pieces for the everyday adventurer, whether you need a parka to get you back and forth from the gym warmly, or something more lightweight for active outdoor pursuits.”
As an avid cyclist and runner, Orr walks the talk, braving the elements himself. “When I’m not hitting the road, I take advantage of the great gym at the Canada Goose headquarters,” he says. Below, his gym bag, unpacked.
