My Healthy: Kate Young
What keeps the energetic stylist revved for her fast-paced life.
We love Kate Young’s edgy, exceptionally cool style and wouldn’t mind a day (or forever) in her envy-inspiring closet. Even more so when we learned that nestled amid the Givenchy and Jason Wu are a good share of fitness finds. “I exercise a lot!” says the mega-stylist, who plans to run the New York City Marathon this Fall.
In addition to creating her own collection for Target last year, Young seamlessly segues from styling high-profile actresses (Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams among them) for the red carpet to working on editorial and advertising shoots and collaborating with designers for runway shows. How does she maintain the energy for such a life on the run? She logs nearly as much time in her sneaks as her stilettos (90s-inspired classic pumps from Manolo Blahnik are a favorite at the moment). Fresh off the Fall 2014 shows, the Oscars, and a much-needed respite to Palm Springs, Young finds time to tell us what keeps her healthy and primed to hit the pavement.
Nike Compression Running Pants
"I run everywhere. I ran everyday on vacation in Palm Springs! L.A. can be hard because I want to run when it's still dark, but Paris is great—I love running along the river—and London has amazing parks. I run in shorts if it's going to be warmer out, but otherwise these are warm and they look good."
Nike LunarGlide+ 5 Sneakers
"These are my favorite sneakers. They have barefoot technology and enough cushioning. I’ve been wearing black-and-white ones for about a year because I like that they look cool with regular clothes—which means I can wear them when I fly instead of having to pack them."
Kiehls Cross-Terrain UV Skin Protector SPF 50
"I don't know if they still make it, my tub has lasted forever. It’s good; thick grease that protects against sun and wind."
"I keep this muscle rub at home. I like the roll-on. And I always have Weleda Arnica Cream with me in my beauty kit, because it's also good for sore muscles. I’m always banging into things and it helps with bruises, too."
7 Minute Workout App
"I’m obsessed with this app, especially for doing with my 5 year old. It’s really fast and fun and hard and I like the counting down and the bells."
Epsom Salts Baths
"Nothing is as restorative. I add lavender or panaway oil from Young Living for an added kick."
Black Foam Roller
"I use this for rolling out my legs. It really gets the kinks out and helps my hip flexors."
