My Beach Essentials: TJ Allers
The PR power player unpacks his summer tote.
As PR Director for the fashion division at Paul Wilmot Communications, TJ Allers oversees luxury powerhouses such as Reem Acra, Elie Saab and Bill Blass, while also leading the PR machine required to turn growing brands into industry heavyweights. At New York Fashion Week next month, Allers will orchestrate a dizzying number of details surrounding his clients' shows: Hence the importance of a little end-of-summer relaxation. Fresh from an escape to El Salvador, Allers shared the elements of his perfect beach day: "Partly cloudy, 82 degrees, a big blanket, a frisbee, Pro Kadima, a cooler packed with cold beverages, another cooler packed with turkey meatballs from Citarella, fresh guacamole, chips, pico de gallo, tequila, and some sandwiches," he says, before adding, "Also, a group of easy, low maintenance friends in adventurous moods, a great book that I’m 50 pages away from finishing, a GQ, a laugh, some swimming and a lot of horseplay!" And, of course, his beach tote essentials:
Saturdays X Porter tote bag
"It is the best. No logo, great lines and it has a waterproof interior so you can keep things tidy and you don’t have to worry about wet trunks or smelly sneakers messing things up."
Patagonia Wavefarer Board Shorts in Bandana Blue
"They cut right above the knee, and the color reminded me of a pair of Panama Jacks I had the summer before 9th grade, and that was a memorable summer for me."
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
"I just finished Haruki Murakami's 1Q84 which was epic, and after reading Kafka on the Shore, I’m trying to read all of his books. 'If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.' – Kafka on the Shore. Such a sweet concept and one of the many reasons I love the author. "
"Simple, easy, clean and they’re the only flip-flops that don’t hurt."
Joe’s Stevie tank
"I have them in a few colors, and they’re soft, loose and really laid-back. Perfect for sweaty, post-beach, sand-covered skin."
Oliver Peoples Bernardo shades
"I recently lost my first pair of these while getting a slice of pizza on Bleecker. I was crushed. I’m now on my second pair, after a friend in LA hooked me up. They look cool and vintage but also somewhat robotic. The tortoise frames are my next buy."
Watermans Applied Science Sun Cream SPF 18
"I don’t like going much higher than SPF 18 unless I use their SPF 55 stick for my nose, lips and ears. I like a tan, and this gives me some color without burning. I’m always in and out of the water or playing something, so this brand is the best, it lasts all day."
