On the heels of the US Men's team's disappointing team performance, you better believe that Miami-based gymnast Danell Leyva is going to approach today's Individual All-Around with a newfound fire. Considered the teams' top contender, the 20 year old Cuban-American athlete, who placed first in last Saturday's qualifying round, was all but born ready. His onetime gymnast parents are now coaches; he's been competing in the sport since age three; the crowds love him. Here, Leyva shares three secrets to his success:
Bring a lucky charm
"I've had the same towel since I was seven. What's funny is I wanted a towel to wipe sweat, so one of my aunts bought one and the other found one in her house, and it turned out to be the exact same towel! Not only is it a superstition, but it helps me keep my focus. I get distracted very easily, and putting a towel over my head helps me not overthink things and focus on what I need to do to hit the routine."
